Esab EPR-X1 PAPR (Powered Air Purifying Respirator) is a must have air fed welding helmet for anyone working in a polluted environment especially in the welding industry as all welding fumes contain harmful particles. The type and level of pollution will depend on the material being welded, how it is finished and cleaned.
It is a requirement by law to control the health risks from welding fume and protect your workers. Welding fume can cause serious health issues such as lung cancer, asthma and many other health conditions. One of the ways to protect yourself, as recommended by HSE (Health and Safety Executive), is by using respiratory protective equipment and personal protective equipment.
If you can not extract all the fume at its source by using a fume extraction system or local exhaust ventilation, or if it is not practicable to provide those in your work environment then you must have a respiratory protective equipment such as the EPR-X1 PAPR.
The new EPR-X1 PAPR system is equipped with the highest respiratory protection system TH3 which can filter 10x more dirt out of the air. In other words, it can filter out 99.8% of all harmful particles of the breathing air and reliably protects against smoke, aerosol, dust and viruses.
The EPR-X1’s turbo unit is controlled with easily-accessed push buttons allowing three airflow speed ranges of 170/190/220 l/minute. The HEPA-quality EN12942 TH-3P certified two-stage filter and spark arrestor are easily accessed through a removable front door.

Battery
One of the benefits of the new Esab PAPR unit is the in-built battery compartment which is easily accessible. In the old Esab PAPR, the battery needed to be attached to the bottom of the unit leaving it exposed to damage and wear.
The battery in the new EPR-X1 is smaller than the one in the old Esab PAPR and has a longer battery life – Up to 10 hours @ 170 l/min.

The EPR-X1 PAPR is compatible and CE certified to EN12941:1988/A1:2003 and A2:2008 TH3 P R SL on the Air Fed Welding Helmets below.

EN12941 indicates the PAPR certification standard (PAPR with helmet or hood)
1988 indicates the year the certification guidelines published
A2 “Amendment 2” of the certification standard
2008 Year “Amendment 2” went into action
Class TH3 P R SL TH3 means 99.8% particulate filtration at lowest published flow rate (170 liters per hour). P stands for Particulate. R means Reusable filter (as opposed to “NR” or “non-reusable”). SL means Solids and Liquids (NOT gas).

Please note EPR-X1 replacement parts are not compatible with any other ESAB PAPR. ESAB will maintain aftermarket parts support for the previous PAPR for 3 years.
