Submerged Arc Welding (SAW) is a welding process that uses a consumable welding wire and a submerged arc to join two pieces of metal. A continuously fed welding wire and a shielding gas protects the weld pool from contamination. The welding wire is fed through a welding torch, which is positioned above the workpiece and the welding wire is submerged under a layer of granular flux. The flux forms a protective layer over the weld pool, which helps to prevent oxidation and other forms of contamination.
Submerged arc welding process is suitable for welding thick materials and is known for its high efficiency and high deposition rates which allows for faster welding speeds and greater productivity. SAW welding process is known for its ability to produce high-quality welds. The granular flux used in the process helps to create a stable arc, which produces a consistent and uniform weld.
Engweld stocks a range of sub arc flux and sub arc wire from various brands including Esab, Lincoln Electric and Oerlikon. Sub arc flux are available in bags of 25kg. Sub arc wires come in various diameters such as 1.6mm, 2.4mm, 2.5mm, 3.0mm, 3.2mm, and 4.0mm. They are available in different weights 15kg, 25kg, and 30kg.
