Spiraband Abrasives
Spirabands are a type of abrasives used in metalworking. They are an excellent tool for blending and deburring and provide access to difficult to reach areas such as curves and bends. They are suitable for use on various materials including steel, stainless steel, leather, glass, plastic and wood, surface cleaning and grinding applications.
Spirabands are typically made from an abrasive cloth that is attached to a cylindrical or conical backing and are designed to fit onto rotary tools such as die grinders. They must be fitted onto the correct size serrated rubber holder.
Grit Grades and Applications
Spirabands are available in various grit grades, each suited for specific tasks. Coarse grits are used for aggressive material removal and heavy deburring. Medium grits are used for general blending, smoothing, and surface preparation. Fine grits are used for fine finishing, polishing, and surface refinement. The appropriate grit grade depends on the material being worked on and the desired finish.

Safety is paramount when working with spirabands. Always wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) to minimize the risk of injury.
- Eye Protection: Wear safety glasses or goggles to protect your eyes from flying debris.
- Hearing Protection: Use earplugs or earmuffs to protect your hearing from noise.
- Respiratory Protection: Wear a dust mask or respirator, especially when sanding indoors or creating a lot of dust.
- Hand Protection: Wear gloves to protect your hands from abrasion and potential heat.
