Hi Vis Workwear - Jackets - Vests - Trousers
Hi Vis workwear, also known as high-visibility workwear or hi-vis clothing, are a type of protective clothing designed to make the wearer more visible in low-light or poor visibility conditions. This type of workwear typically includes brightly coloured fabrics, reflective materials, and fluorescent stripes, patches or bands..
Hi Vis workwear is commonly worn by workers in industries such as construction, roadwork, utilities, and emergency services, where workers are exposed to traffic, heavy machinery, and other hazards. The bright and reflective materials used in Hi Vis workwear make it easier for people to see them, reducing the risk of accidents and injuries.
The reflective material on hi vis clothing works by reflecting light back to its source, such as headlights from a passing car, making the wearer more visible to others even from a distance.
Hi Vis Jackets
Engweld stocks Hi Vis Jackets, also known as safety jackets, in various styles including bomber jackets, yellow and orange traffic jackets, extreme weather jackets, and 4-in1 jackets. 4-in-1 jackets can be worn four ways for multi use.
Hi Vis jackets are typically waterproof and feature weatherproof functions. Extreme Weather Jackets are especially designed to withstand extreme rain and weather conditions. They are highly waterproof and contain features to make them breathable to provide protection and comfort simultaneously.
Hi Vis Vests
Hi Vis vests, also known as safety vests, are similar to Hi Vis jackets as they serve similar purposes in terms of increasing visibility and promoting safety, but they differ in terms of their design and functionality.
Hi Vis Vests are sleeveless workwear that are worn over regular clothing, typically fastening at the front with a zipper or Velcro. They are more suitable for warmer conditions or where workers prefer more free arm movement. Hi Vis Jackets include sleeves, a zipper or snap front and sometimes a hood making them suitable for cooler environments or where there is need for protection from rain or wind.
Hi Vis Trousers
Hi Vis Trousers are high-visibility pants that serve the same purpose as Hi Vis jackets and vests, to provide increased visibility to workers. Some hi-vis trousers also feature additional design elements, such as reinforced knees, multiple pockets for storage, and adjustable waistbands or cuffs. These features can help to improve the comfort and functionality of the trousers, making them more suitable for use in demanding work environments.
Engweld also stocks Hi Vis Coveralls, Overalls and Boiler Suits.
Hi Vis Clothing Standard
ISO 20471:2013 High Visibility Clothing is the international standard that specifies safety and test requirements for high-visibility clothing to be used in high-risk working environments. It specifies requirements for high visibility clothing which is capable of signalling the user’s presence.
Please note ISO 20471:2013 replaced the EN 471:2003. Certificates are valid for 5 years only meaning Hi Vis clothing made to EN471 certification are no longer compliant and must be replaced with ones made to the latest ISO 20471 certification.
ISO 20471:2013 standard lays out three classes of high-visibility clothing, with each class having different requirements for the amount of visible background material and the amount and placement of retroreflective material. The requirements for each class are based on the level of risk associated with the task being performed and the level of visibility needed to ensure the safety of the worker.
Class 1: This class provides the minimum amount of high-visibility protection. Items acceptable in this class may be Hi Vis trousers when worn separately from other Hi Vis garments.
Class 2: This class offers greater visibility than Class 1. Items that commonly meet class 2 include Hi Vis Vests.
Class 3: This class provides the highest level of visibility and is appropriate for workers who are at the greatest risk from hazards. Items that commonly meet this class are Hi Vis jackets.
