Plasma occurs when additional energy is added to a gas, at which point the molecules within the gas begin to move faster and therefore collide with greater force. Ions are formed as atoms begin to separate from their electron outer shell, which forms ions. As more and more atoms turn to ions, the gas reaches a critical point where the atoms taking in free electrons is balanced with the number of atoms losing electrons. Now, the ionised gas becomes a plasma.
This thermal-based fabrication process can be used to cut through a range of metals, using a constricted plasma arc.
