Hammers

Hammers are used in many industries including construction, carpentry, metalworking, and many other trades and industries. They are also a must-have for every household for doing odd jobs around the house such as hanging a frame on the wall or nailing a floorboard or piece of moulding.

Hammers come in different sizes and weights. There are different types of hammers, each designed for different purposes. Engweld stocks a range of different types of hammers including, ball pein hammers, chipping hammers, copper/hide hammers, and sledgehammers. It is important to know the difference between the different types of hammers in order to choose the right-hand tool for your project.

Hammers may be manufactured to BS876 which is a European standard with specifications for hand hammers. The standard specifies dimensions, forms, and materials for hammers.

Ball Pein Hammers

A ball-pein hammer or ball-peen hammer also known as a machinist's hammer, is a type of hammer that has a rounded end on one side and a flat face on the other. They are typically fitted with a hickory handle. They are designed for use in carpentry and metalworking. The steel ball peen head is hardened making it suitable to drive punches and cold chisels, set rivets, and shape metal.

Ball pein hammer can also be used for breaking up concrete, driving stakes or wedges, and other tasks where a heavy, controlled blow is required. A ball pein hammer with enough weight is required to drive the tool when driving a cold chisel or punch. However, when shaping a metal a hammer that doesn’t weigh too much is recommended to avoid scaring or distorting the material.

Chipping Hammers

A chipping hammer is a handheld tool and a type of hammer used for breaking and chipping away at hard materials such as concrete, brick, stone and metal. They are often used in construction and demolition work, as well as metalworking and fabrication. Chipping hammers come in a variety of sizes and shapes, and they are versatile tool that is essential for anyone who works with hard materials on a regular basis.

They are a handy tool for removing slag after welding. You must always use a stainless steel chipping hammer when working on stainless steel or aluminium. Chipping hammers are typically made of metal and feature a handle and a flat, pointed, or chisel-shaped head. The head of the hammer is designed to deliver powerful blows that can break apart materials and remove debris.
