To get you started with MIG welding, you will need a MIG Welder machine and a MIG welding torch. There are a number of factors you need to consider when buying a MIG torch such as amperage, wire type, air-cooled or water-cooled. Comfort is one of the factors that is overlooked even though studies have proved that there are some aspects of MIG torches that can aid in reducing the negative effects of welding on the body.
There are air-cooled and water-cooled MIG torches to choose from. Water-cooled torches may be a better choice if you require a longer duty cycle. Duty cycle is one of the factors to consider when choosing a torch. Please remember, when a torch overheats, it does not shut down like your welding machine, as there is no thermal overload protection on them. An overheated torch will cause the consumables inside it to start burning up.
Another important factor to note is that MIG torches may look similar but their consumables inside them are not interchangeable. For example, for a Binzel MIG torch you will need to buy Binzel consumables.
