Understanding Rigger Gloves

Rigger gloves are robust and general-purpose work gloves. You can use them for a wide variety of manual tasks such as on construction sites (general labouring, scaffolding, material handling), agriculture and farming (handling tools, machinery, livestock) or general warehousing and logistics. Rigger gloves provide protection against common workplace hazards.

The durability and robustness of rigger gloves are achieved thanks to the tough leather construction with cowhide or split leather which are known for their ability to withstand wear and tear in demanding environments. This makes the leather rigger gloves resistant to abrasion. Rigger gloves, thanks to this construction, will protect you against scrapes, scratches, dirt, and minor impacts encountered during any manual handling task.

Rigger gloves are also known for good grip when handling tools, ropes, and materials securely, and the comfort of their fabrication which is even more improved by cuff protection (Gauntlet Style). This extended rubberised safety cuff design will protect your wrist and forearm from debris, snags, and potential injury.

The cost-effectiveness is also a really important characteristic of the rigger gloves. There are affordable and practical safety gloves which are going to suit most of the general-purpose hand protection needs. Engweld stock various brands of rigger gloves at affordable prices such as Parweld with the Panther Black & Gold Rigger Glove and our own brand RADNOR™ with the RADNOR™ Rigger Gloves.

How to choose the right Rigger Gloves?

Choosing the right leather rigger gloves will depend on the type of project and industry you are working in. From one industry to another you’ll need to choose different leather types, cuff styles or fits.

If we take the example of the construction industry, durable, abrasion resistance, and often, wrist and forearm protection are mandatory to handle rough materials like timber or concrete blocks. We advise you to take gloves made from high-quality cowhide or split leather for excellent abrasion resistance and longevity. Reinforced palms and fingers and gauntlet cuffs are also a must have in this industry with good grip to handle tools and material safely. Last but not least, you need to consider choosing gloves suitable for cold weather. A solid choice for this type of scenario would be the Super Plus Double Palm Rigger Gloves from Parweld

For Agricultural work you’ll need to choose durable and flexible gloves with resistance to dirt and moisture. And because you’ll need to handle tools and machinery, you’ll need a good grip with a good balance of protection and dexterity. Some key elements you’ll need to consider when choosing your rigger gloves will be the water and puncture resistance of the leather. For this we’d recommend the Premier Quality Tiger Drivers Glove Lined With Spandex Back from parweld for all your agriculture needs.

In case you are working in a dock or on a port area and you need to handle rope, secure loads, and work with potentially greasy or damp materials which are common, we’d advise you to choose high durability rigger gloves with excellent grip and significant wrist and forearm protection. Heavy-duty leather with long gauntlet cuffs will be a must have with reinforced stress points and water resistance construction. For this type of working environment, we’d recommend the S5 Gold Tiger Riggers Glove from JustOne Source.

If you are still unsure about which pair of rigger gloves is right for you, don’t hesitate to contact us or visit one of our stores all around the UK, where the team in store will be more than happy to help.

Protection and safety whilst working

Rigger gloves will enhance your protection and safety while working on your different projects, but they are not the only personal protective equipment that you’ll need to use during your different tasks. As we know the importance of your safety in the industrial world, at Engweld we stock a wide range of PPE that you’ll need, from safety glasses to welding aprons or and hearing protection

But sometimes rigger gloves will not be the most suitable gloves for your project. For instance if you are working with abrasive materials, we’ll advise you to choose Cut Resistant gloves. If you are working with hazardous substances nitrile gloves or chemical resistant gloves are going to be more suitable for you. In some cases gripper gloves or impact resistant gloves are going to be the best fit for your project too.

While working in extreme temperatures, thermal work gloves are going to be vital to avoid any issues of overheating or frozen hands. And, in case you are working in the welding industry, we also stock MIG Welding Gloves and TIG Welding Gloves that are designed to protect you when undertaking the different forms of welding.
