The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has released a safety alert highlighting new scientific evidence from the International Agency for Research on Cancer suggesting that exposure to all welding fumes causes lung cancer, and kidney cancer. Following the findings, The Workplace Health Expert Committee has endorsed the reclassification of mild steel welding fume as a human carcinogen.
Engweld recommend 2 stages to deal with welding fume in the working environment:
1. Make sure welding fume released is controlled effectively by installing local exhaust ventilation.
2. Protect the welder from breathing in any outstanding welding fume by issuing an air fed welding mask.
Products like PAPR Units supply clean air to the wearer reducing the effort required to breathe in fume environments through a controlled airflow system that guarantees constant flow. With enhanced warning signals, optical and audible alarms for low power, clogged filter and reduced airflow, the Pro-Line Air PAPR Unit ensures workers are protected, and compliance is met. The air fed welding mask comes with a smooth and clear status display, an ultra-quiet brushless motor, two-speed airflow control, audible & vibration warnings, large view pro-line welding & grinding helmet, removable Li-ion battery, and can run for 10+ hours. Here you'll find a wide range of solutions suitable for your welding application and budget.
ESAB Sentinel A60 for air
The helmet itself remains light and comfortable to wear with the same ultra-clear true colour lens for a realistic view of your actual weld. A comfortable breathable soft face seal ensures a complete closure against the fume. The ESAB EPR-X1 PAPR (Powered Air Purifying Respirator) unit provides 170L of filtered air per minute to give a more pleasant working environment. The unit only weighs 1kg but will still withstand the toughest of environments. The unit is supplied with a P3 filter with an extraordinary filtration capacity.
ESAB Savage A40 for air
The ESAB Savage A40 air welding helmet with ESAB's EPR-X1 PAPR unit is a full-face respiratory system designed to provide the highest safety and comfort for the welder. Manufactured and tested to meet stringent EN12941 standards, the helmet with PAPR provides a high protection rating of TH3P and uses a high performance P3 main filter to remove particulate matter.
Designed for heavy-duty, high amperage welding and grinding, the flip-up G5-01 welding helmet connects to the 3M™ Adflo™ Powered Air Respirator to provide class TH3 respiratory protection. The new G5-01 auto-darkening welding filter feature the popular 3M Speedglas Natural Color Technology for more realistic color in the light state. This G5-01VC (Variable Color) model also lets users select a warm, standard, or cool color preference.
ESAB G40 & G50 for air
The G50 is a combined welding and grinding helmet houses an ADF Automatic Darkening Filter, shade levels DIN 9-13 with flip-up visor. The large plastic lens gives the welder an unobstructed field of view when the visor is flipped up. The helmet is rated B in the impact resistance classification, which means it is approved for grinding.
