Angle grinders are handheld tools primarily used for grinding and polishing. They can also be used for a variety of metal fabrication jobs that include cutting, deburring, finishing, and removing excess material from your metalwork. The most common types of grinders are powered by electricity, either corded or battery powered. The smaller versions are more versatile and lighter and tend to operate at much higher rpm rates than the larger ones, giving more precise clean cuts. Larger metal grinders have a more powerful motor to allow for deeper cutting and more heavy-duty removal of material, although they do tend to be heavier and bulkier.
Engweld stock a large range of angle grinders from big brands such as Milwaukee, Bosch & Hikoki. Please do contact us if you can't find the grinder you're looking for.
The following factors should be considered when buying an angle grinder:
The size of the disc should have a direct bearing on your choice of angle grinder. The two most common disc sizes are 4.5” (115mm) and 9” (230mm). Grinders with larger discs are particularly well suited to heavy-duty applications, whereas those with smaller discs are ideal for finer work. Additionally, it’s worth bearing in mind that smaller grinders have a relatively high RPM and smaller discs are also more prone to wearing down quite rapidly.
