Earth Clamps - Earthing

Earth clamps are an essential welding tool that, via the earth cable, ensures the electrical welding circuit is closed between the welding power source and the piece to be welded. Without a good earth connection, the performance of the welder and the welding machine will be compromised, causing a drop in welding output voltage and resulting in an inferior-quality weld or, worse, possibly risking your safety.

Our range includes our popular 600 Amp Screwtype Earth Clamp Drop Forged, a robust and industrial drop forged screw type clamp suitable for heavy-duty welding jobs of up to 600 amps.

We also have a range of Welding cables & Accessories, which includes accessories such as panel sockets, dix cable plugs & sockets, and cable lugs that are compatible with our earth clamps.

What is an earth clamp used for?

An earth clamp connects the lead out cable from the energiser to an earth rod. The earth clamp guarantees a secure connection between the energiser and earthing system for optimum electrical conductivity.

How long does an earth clamp last?

The life expectancy of an earth clamp can entirely depend on its care and use. Clamps that aren’t kept in good condition not only put your safety at risk but may also lead to problems with the weld quality and the operation of the welding equipment. Welding current leakage or limitation will result from an unreliable earth clamp. Be sure to replenish your clamp, cables and socket supplies when they begin to show signs of deterioration.

What types of earth clamps are there?

We stock many various types of earth clamps for welding, including crocodile, magnetic, and screw clamps. Screw clamps are preferable for heavy-duty and industrial welding applications, whereas crocodile clamps are suitable for quick, temporary connections thanks to their strong, dependable grip. In contrast, magnetic clamps allow welders to rapidly set up, weld and go on to the next task since they are sturdy without requiring any complex fixtures or jigs.

How do you attach an earth clamp?

The earth clamp is fastened to the workpiece near the weld area on clean metal. Ensure that the clamp is attached securely to avoid any voltage leakage or restriction.
