Spot Welding Information

What is Spot Welding?

Spot welding is a resistance welding process and that is why it is also known as resistance spot welding. In this form of welding, instead of using any filler material, the two metals are welded together by bringing them to a melting point by applying pressure and heat using alloy copper electrodes which convey an electrical current through the weld pieces. This can be achieved by spot welding guns or the type of spot welding machine you see here. Common Spot Welding Applications

Applications of Spot Welders:

Spot welders find use in various industries due to their ability to create strong, clean welds without extensive heat distortion:

  • Automotive Industry: Spot welders are instrumental in car body construction, joining sheet metal parts for doors, hoods and frames.
  • Appliance Manufacturing: They play a crucial role in assembling various appliances like refrigerators, washing machines and electronics housings.
  • Aerospace Industry: A spot welder will also be used in aircraft construction for joining lightweight aluminum and other alloys - key in building many areoplanes.
  • HVAC Systems: These welders help assemble components in heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems.
  • Battery Packs: Spot welders are used to create precise welds for connecting battery cells within battery packs.
