Coveralls & Overalls

Coveralls and overalls are full-body protective clothing worn by workers to protect themselves from hazards such as chemicals, biological agents, particulates, radiant, convective, contact heat, and other environmental hazards. They provide a physical barrier between the wearer and potentially harmful materials, helping prevent contamination and exposure to hazardous substances.

Coveralls and overalls are typically designed as a one-piece garment that covers the torso, arms, and legs, and some may include a hood to cover the head and neck. They are made of materials such as polyethylene, polypropylene or Tyvek, which are resistant to chemicals, liquids and particles.

Coveralls and overalls are commonly used in industries such as manufacturing, healthcare, agriculture, and fabrication, as well as in emergency response situations. There are also Hi Vis anti-static coveralls ideal for those in a service position.

Coveralls, overalls and boiler suits typically offer complete protection and are designed to provide a generous fit and allow the wearer to work unhindered with full freedom of movement and numerous pockets to provide ample storage space to hold equipment and personal items securely and safely. Some are cleverly designed to provide you with the option to insert knee pads when needed.

Boiler Suits

Boiler suits are a one-piece garment, similar to coveralls and overalls, designed to provide full-body protection for workers in a range of industries. The term “boiler suit” originally referred to the protective clothing worn by boiler workers, but the design and concept has since been adopted by a variety of other professions.

PPE Regulations

Employers are often required by law to provide appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) for their workers, including coveralls, overalls and boiler suits where needed. The Personal Protective Equipment at Work Regulations (PPER 1992) places a duty on every employer in Great Britain to ensure that suitable PPE is provided to ‘employees’ who may be exposed to a risk to their health or safety while at work.

The PPER 1992 regulation was amended on 6th April 2022 with Personal Protective Equipment at Work (Amendment) Regulations 2022 (PPER 2022). The duties and responsibilities on employers and employees under the PPER 2022 are the same as PPER 1992 but extended to limb (b) workers
